Common questions about billing, invoicing, and payments.
For firms using Client Data Solutions
What's included in my subscription?
Every plan includes every feature — encrypted document sharing, client invoicing, and digital payments. Plans are priced by your active client count, with a generous staff seat allowance included. Client accounts never count toward your staff seat limit.
What happens during my free trial?
Every new portal starts with a free 14-day trial with every feature included — no credit card required. To subscribe during or after the trial, use Subscribe Monthly/Annually in your portal's Settings → Billing.
What payment methods do you accept?
Subscriptions are billed through Stripe Checkout, so any major credit or debit card is accepted.
How do I update my card or view past receipts?
Use Manage Billing in your portal's Settings → Billing — it opens a secure, Stripe-hosted page where you can update your payment method, view invoices/receipts, and switch between monthly and annual billing.
Can I switch between monthly and annual billing?
Yes, anytime, from Manage Billing in Settings → Billing. To move to a different tier, contact us at help@clientdatasolutions.com. Annual plans can't be downgraded to a lower tier until renewal.
What happens if a payment fails?
We'll email you and Stripe will retry automatically. While a payment is past due, staff can't create new invoices or upload documents on a client's behalf until it's resolved — owners and admins always retain access to fix billing.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes — use Manage Billing in Settings → Billing, or email us at help@clientdatasolutions.com. You'll keep full access through the end of your current paid period.
How do I get paid when I invoice a client?
Connect your own Stripe account from Settings → Billing in the portal — payments go straight to your Stripe account. We never see or touch your clients' funds, and we take 0% of what they pay (Stripe's standard processing fees still apply).
Do I need a Stripe account to send invoices?
Yes — invoice sending requires an active connected Stripe account. If you don't have one yet, Stripe will walk you through creating one when you connect from Settings → Billing. Once an invoice is finalized, sending it to your client emails them a secure payment link.
For clients paying an invoice
How do I pay an invoice I received?
Open the invoice email you received and click the secure payment link — it takes you straight to Stripe's hosted payment page.
What payment methods can I use?
Whatever your firm's connected Stripe account accepts — typically all major credit and debit cards.
Is my card information safe?
Yes — payments are processed entirely by Stripe. Neither your firm nor Client Data Solutions ever sees or stores your card details.
I have a question about a charge on my invoice — who do I contact?
Reach out to the firm directly; invoices are billed and collected through their own Stripe account, not by Client Data Solutions.
Will I get a receipt?
The invoice itself will show as paid, and Stripe emails a receipt automatically if your firm has that enabled on their Stripe account. If you don't receive one, ask the firm directly.
My payment didn't go through — what now?
Double check your card details and try again, or contact your firm — they can resend the invoice or help resolve the issue directly.
